SUMMER SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES

In our endeavours to keep all people connected with the ocean in one way or another we have devised a list of school holiday activities that can be enjoyed by the sea or with the ocean and water ways in mind.  We hope these can keep adults and kids entertained during the school holidays.

 

Half Moon Bay

Where:  enter off Beach Road, Black Rock

A popular dive sit for training our Open Water divers, this is also a great picturesque patrolled beach that also has a fish and chip shop, restroom facilities and car parking in very close proximity.  Makes a lovely day where you can eat your fish and chips on the beach without having to wash the sand off your feet.

 

Science Works – Deep Oceans

Dive in and uncover the secrets of the world’s largest habitat.

From the Vampire Squid and Dragonfish to the Sea Mouse, Fangtooth and Squat Lobster, this hands-on exhibition shows you all the weird and wonderful animals that live 4000 metres below the ocean’s surface.

The Polly Woodside

Not exactly in the ocean but still a lot of fun for your would be mini pirates.

                Pirate Day

Arrrrrrrr!!! The first Sunday of every month is Pirate Day at the Polly Woodside!  Dress as a pirate and search for hiddentreasure, scrub the deck and have your face painted!

The next Pirate Day is Sunday January 4th 2015.

                Holiday Pirates

Who wants to become a pirate at Polly Woodside? Join in on some school holiday fun and experience a day in the life of a pirate with hands on activities.

Sessions running daily from Monday 12th January to Friday 16th January 2015

10.00am – 12.00pm
1.30pm – 3.30pm Monday 12th January only

Activities include treasure hunts, games, pirate classes and a movie quiz.

            Caribbean Pirates at the Polly Woodside

This exciting hour-long interactive theatre production is performed on shore and on the decks of the Polly Woodside itself with lots of swordfights and songs and plenty of hearty pirate action. The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is a well-known  fairy tale by the Danish author Hans Christian about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul and the love of a human prince.

Sealife Melbourne Aquarium

Various holiday activities such as creating your own underwater creature then bring the sea to Life with the giant 9M virtual Aquarium

Ocean Rangers program includes and educational tour, art and craft activities plus animal encounters.

Aquarist for a Day program has high school kids preparing food and feeding exhibits.

Werribee Zoo

Parks Victoria Summer Discovery Program

This allows Junior Rangers to discover the natural world through a wide variety of ranger-guided activities.  This means exploring everything from rock pools,c aves and wetlands and learning about animals, ecosystems and the environment.

Frankston Waterfront – Sand Sculpting

From Boxing Day 2014 through to April 26 2015 , Frankston Waterfront will again be transformed as 3,500 tonnes of sand is carved into spectacular sand sculptures. This year Sand Sculpting Australia will present “Friends, Foes & Super Heroes”  – carving iconic and adored Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars characters.

Plus,on weekends and school holidays there will be roving entertainment and free face painting.
