Xavier’s Editorial – March 2014

What a Summer it was…. Record high temperatures across the country mixed in with record low rainfall, more Northerly winds hit Melbourne this last Summer than any other Summer on record!  There is an up-side to that, as well as a down side.  The up side is that more dives were able to be conducted outside Port Phillip Heads than other previous Summers, the down side is that regular dive sites such as Rye, Blairgowrie, and Portsea were often blown out.

At the start of February, Georgie headed up a dive trip to South Australia’s Tuna capital, Port Lincoln to dive with South Australia’s Great White Sharks, and indeed the divers weren’t disappointed with as many as 6 sharks being seen on 1 dive.  That is good news for shark lovers with numbers obviously on the increase.

Reports from the trip were very positive with good visibility, various opportunities to dive in a bottom cage or in a surface cage as well as a cage night dive.

Looking ahead to forthcoming trips, our June trip to the Solomon Islands is close to capacity with only one unit left on the resort.  Our back to back Philippines and Palau live–aboard trip with Worldwide Sail & Dive is full to capacity, there are only 2 places left on our trip aboard Spirit Of Freedom in September diving the Cod Hole and Ribbon Reefs, and there is only 1 cabin left on the Truk Siren for our Truk Lagoon trip to Micronesia 10 to 21 November.

Our recently launched trip to Kangaroo Island is also filling steadily with only 1 double room left along with a female single share and a male single share.

Setting our sights on 2015, we have 2 fabulous destinations on offer, Lissenung Resort – Kavieng, Papua New Guinea 8 – 17 June 2015 followed by Barefoot Island Resort – Yassawa Islands, Fiji 25 June – 4 July 2015 where you can dive and snorkel with Manta Rays.

We have just scheduled a new and exciting program with a club information session to take place March 28 at SCUBA CULTURE.  Facebook friends of SCUBA CULTURE will have seen the recent posts and clips promoting freediving, in fact, we have secured the very best of the best as far as a freediving instructor is concerned, whys don’t you come and meet him at our club night March 28? Just shoot us an RSVP!
